Welcome to my photo gallery. My name is Mike Castro and I'd like to make clear from the start that I am not a professional photographer. I do love taking pictures, though, and (with skillful and patient assistance from my wife Diane) I believe I've developed a pretty good eye (you can be the final judge). Some of the photos found herein were taken by Diane. Notations will indicate which ones.

I enjoy shooting many different subjects, but I gain the most pleasure from landscape shots, particularly if the light and shadows are working in a dramatic way. I have never quite developed the gumption to take photographs of strangers and thus you will notice a lack of "slice of life" shots at which some photographers are so adept. I like my subjects to stay put while I tinker with the settings.

For those of you who care about things technical, most of these photographs were taken with a Minolta X-370N, 35mm SLR. It is primarily a manual camera, although it will compute shutter speed if set to auto mode. I like it better than cameras which try to do everything for me. I prefer to focus myself, set the F-Stop, and even advance the film with my own thumb. I use three lenses, all zooms; a 17mm-28mm, a 28mm-70mm, and a 70mm-210mm. This gives me a wide range of flexibility without having to lug around a suitcase full of equipment.

If you would like to see some photos of baseball stadiums, then please visit Fields of Dreams, my website dedicated to major and minor league ballparks.

Are you into trains? Then stop by my Trains website for photos of real trains and my own former basement railroad.

Enjoy your visit and thanks for stopping by.
Mike
