League Park was demolished in 1951

League Park was the home of the Cleveland Indians of the American League.

League Park was a tiny place, holding only 22,500 fans, but it served as home to the Indians until 1947 when they moved into Cleveland Stadium full time. It stood to the east of downtown in a residential neighborhood. It may have been torn down a long time ago, but a few pieces still remain. The above plaque is posted at the sight commemorating the ballpark. The original ticket office still stands as a community center, and a portion of the right field stands is still there, although in a dreadfully run down state.

The best thing about the location, though, is that the diamond is still there in exactly the same spot where it has been for most of this century. It's pretty cool to stand on the same mound that Cy Young once stood on and stand in the same batters box from which Babe Ruth launched his 500th career home run.

The "ruins" may not be lovingly preserved like Forbes Field, but it is a little piece of history just sitting there waiting to be found.
